Rechargeable Battery Chemistries

VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid)
Our VRLA line consists of several types of VRLA batteries.  Having produced absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries since the late 1960s, EaglePicher recently has expanded its line to include Deep Cycle batteries and Gel Batteries.  Each of these designs offers unique characteristics to accommodate the needs of SLA users today.  As a general rule, AGM batteries are most efficiently used in float applications such as emergency lighting and telecommunications back-up, while Deep Cycle and Gel batteries are best suited to cyclic applications such as wheelchairs and solar power.  EaglePicher lead acid batteries can also be found in military applications, high- reliability data storage backup systems and even electric fence chargers.  With the wide range of sizes and power we offer, these batteries can be found around the globe.

NiCd: (Nickel Cadmium)
The NiCd line consists of the entire group of standard cells as well as some cells in non-standard sizes.  In addition to these products, we also offer several NiCd packs for equipment such as emergency lights and back-up power.  Our extensive knowledge and engineering means we can also design and produce new packs to meet any voltage and capacity requirement.  Several of our batteries are also designed to meet high-temperature or high-rate applications such as those used in portable medical equipment, robotics and military electronics.

NiMH  (Nickel Metal Hydride)
NiMH chemistry has proven to be reliable for a wide variety of uses.  A good match for applications such as cell phones and pagers, the NiMH chemistry provides long cycle life with moderate energy density.  Once touted as the chemistry of the future, the NiMH line has found a specific niche in the market that the NiCd and Li-Ion chemistries cannot meet.  Benefits include its environmentally friendly chemistry, no memory effect and long cycle life.

Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion)
Li-Ion chemistry offers high energy density and long cycle life, making Li-Ion very desirable for most rechargeable chemistry uses.  EaglePicher also has extensive expertise in charge / discharge cycling and the design of the required circuitry to keep the chemistry safe.   Providing exceptional power due to its higher nominal voltage of 3.6V, this chemistry operates in a temperature range of -30◦C to +60◦C and has a favorable shelf life due to low self-discharge.  Both high-volume commercial applications and low-volume specialized applications are available.
